American Collar

This collar is characteristic of the preppy style, the style of clothing worn by wealthy American students at prestigious Ivy League universities: it will go well with oxfords in mid-season, as well as flannel in Autumn/Winter. Be careful, this collar is best worn on a shirt with an exposed placket. This type of collar is not suitable for a business shirt. If you wear a suit for fun (and mismatched), then you can have fun wearing it with the tips unbuttoned, under your tweed sports jacket and with your favorite club tie.
